The Coaching Audio vs. the Conversation Course: Which One Is Right for You?

Sep 11 / Rachel L.
If you’ve been exploring Cuentacuenta and you’re trying to decide between the Coaching Audio subscription and our courses, you’re asking exactly the right question.

They’re not the same thing. They’re designed for different needs, different learning styles, and different moments in your Spanish journey.

This post breaks down both products honestly, what they actually are, who they’re right for, and how to choose.

First: what does each product actually do?

Coaching Audios

Coaching audios are built around speaking practice. You receive a set of question-based prompts (2 per audio) and your job is to answer them out loud. Record yourself for up to 2 minutes per prompt, submit your recordings, and within 72 hours, Cecilio sends you a personalized written feedback report.

That report covers: what you did well, areas to work on, corrections with explanations, and specific focus points for your next session.

The subscription gives you four audios per month (8 prompts), one per week. There’s a 6-day free trial with no commitment so you can sign up, try it, and decide from there!

Stay Present + Push Past Courses

Our courses are a structured curriculum. Thirty lessons. Each lesson includes a video (~10 minutes), a downloadable PDF summary, an intonation practice exercise, and fifteen interactive exercises.

You move through the material at your own pace. It’s built to take you from where you are now through a clear progression of real vocabulary, conversation structures, and the kind of Spanish that native speakers actually use, not textbook formulas.

The course is $89 for lifetime access.

How to choose: three questions to ask yourself

1. Do you know what to learn, or do you know it but struggle to say it?

If you feel like you have gaps in your knowledge like vocabulary, structure, how to form certain kinds of sentences then our courses are probably the right starting point.

If you already have a decent base but you freeze when you try to speak, or you feel like your Spanish is locked inside your head and won’t come out, that’s a Coaching Audio problem. You know more than you can access in conversation, and what you need is practice converting that knowledge into real speech.

2. Do you prefer structured curriculum or flexible practice?

Some learners thrive with a clear sequence. Lesson 1, Lesson 2, a clear path through defined material. If that’s you, the our courses will feel satisfying and organized.

If you learn better by doing, by having prompts thrown at you and figuring out how to respond, the Coaching Audios work the way your brain works. There's a prompt every week. It’s open-ended and you can’t predict what’s coming, which is exactly the point.

3. What does your life actually allow right now?

Our course require carving out time to sit with the lessons, work through the exercises, and absorb the material. However, you can do them whenever you have time, whenever and wherever.

The Coaching Audios are flexible as well. You record your responses when you have 15–20 minutes. You don’t have to be in a particular place or set a particular time. They fit around your week rather than requiring you to schedule around them.

What if you want both?

That’s actually the most effective combination.

Our courses build your Spanish vocabulary and structural knowledge. The Coaching Audios put that knowledge into active use where you're actually speaking it out loud and getting feedback on how well it lands.

Many learners start with one and add the other once they’ve experienced what the first one does for them. If you’re not sure where to start, the Coaching Audio trial is the lower-commitment entry point — six days, no charge, and you’ll know very quickly whether the format works for you.

The short version

  • Start with Coaching Audios if: you have enough Spanish but you’re not speaking it confidently
  • Start with our courses if: you want a structured curriculum and clear progression through real conversational Spanish
  • Use both if: you want to build knowledge and then immediately put it into practice

If you’re still not sure, the quiz on the homepage takes a few minutes and gives you a specific recommendation based on where you are right now.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Cuentacuenta’s Coaching Audio and their courses?

The Coaching Audio is a speaking practice product — you record yourself answering prompts and receive personalized written feedback. The courses are a structured 30-lesson curriculum with video lessons, PDF summaries, and exercises. The Coaching Audio builds active speaking fluency; the course builds conversational vocabulary and structure.

Can I use both the coaching audio and the conversation course together?

Yes, and many students do. The course builds your knowledge, and the coaching audios put that knowledge into active speaking practice. Using both accelerates progress more than either product alone.

Which Cuentacuenta product is better for beginners?

Stay Present is generally a better starting point for true beginners, since it builds vocabulary and structure first. The Coaching Audios work best once you have enough Spanish to start forming sentences, typically from low-intermediate upward.

Is the Cuentacuenta coaching audio subscription worth it?

The coaching audio subscription is particularly valuable for learners who know Spanish but struggle to speak it confidently or don't really have anyone to practice with. The combination of weekly speaking practice and personalized written feedback addresses the specific gap that holds most intermediate learners back.
